Professor Donnez is former Head of Gynaecology and is the founder of the Infertility Research Unit of the UCL.
He has devoted his career to identifying and understanding the molecular and pathophysiological mechanisms underlying female infertility, and followed the development of new therapeutic advances to restore or preserve women’s health and fertility. His research activities focus on three main topics: Tubal infertility, Endometriosis, and more recently, Ovarian Cryopreservation and Transplantation. He has made a major contribution to these fields by examining and interpreting clinical data in the light of cellular and molecular observations, and developing original experimental models and innovative microsurgical approaches.
He has authored more than 800 publications in this field and is a reviewer for a number of journals including Fertility and Sterility, Human Reproduction, Human Reproduction Update, and The Lancet. He is associate editor of Fertility Sterility. He is a founder member of the World Endometriosis Society, the International Society for Fertility Preservation, the International Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy, the European Society of Infectious Diseases in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the European Association of Gynaecological Laser Endoscopy, the European Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy and the International Society of Fertility Preservation.
